“Idling Waters” is a snapshot of a research trip to the Salton Sea in California. The installation is dedicated to the transformations of an endangered, exhausted landscape, the last stop for thousands of birds before they make their way to the Pacific. This artificial lake, created by a leak in a water transportation pipeline, seethes with activity from toxic algae, in anticipation of the promise of rich lithium deposits.
The documented structures on the landscapes, once evidence of a struggle against change and decay, have lost their solidity, revealing a fragile, ghostly fragility on the verge of disappearing with mechanical movement under the influence of the tides.
